Description

This topic aims to expand the vocabulary and provide a deeper intuition for how to form words. Earlier topics taught the letters of the alphabet and their sounds; this topic has Apprentices ‘combining’ these elements to form new words for the first time. For the most part, this comes down to simply experiencing all these new words, such as through stories or language puzzles.

Objectives

The learning objectives in this topic are defined as follows.

• Practice reading CCVC and CVCC words.
• Expand vocabulary to the 500 most common words.
• Understand that words can be manipulated; parts of words show up in other words with a similar meaning.
• Be able to ‘write’ by rearranging pre-made letter objects or cards.
