Splitzoo is a grouping and (area) division puzzle. Each puzzle shows a grid full of animals—a wild zoo, if you like. You must “split” them such that the right animals are separated. For example, animals that don’t live in the same biome, or animals that would eat each other.
In the first level, splitting just means drawing a straight line, and the exact separations are given to you. Higher difficulties, as expected, increase the challenge by having you figure out the groups yourself, and allowing more complex shapes for the different areas.
As such, the first ~66% of puzzles can be played by cutting if you want, but the final puzzles probably require drawing on the puzzle instead.
“Area Division” is a popular mechanic in (abstract) logic puzzles. This puzzle is a simplified, pre-counter/pre-reader version, which has more color and theme and will appeal to kids. If they can do this, and they learn their first numbers/letters, they will eventually be able to step up to the classic logic puzzles about area division!
